Shaun Chen mourns death of older sister

The atmosphere on the set of Channel 8 drama series My Friends from Afar was unusually somber yesterday. Lead actor Shaun Chen also appeared downcast and was in a solemn mood. During his interview with local Chinese entertainment magazine i-Weekly, he revealed that he had received news about his older sister’s passing after returning from Hat Yai, Thailand, in the afternoon.
According to Shaun, his 51-year-old sister, who has high blood pressure, forgot to bring her medication with her on her work trip to Hat Yai.
“She had to talk on stage and maybe she was too nervous, her blood pressure soared. She left for the hospital the moment she finished her talk as she forgot to bring her medicine,” he said.

Shaun's sister fell unconscious and was rushed to a local hospital; she was brought back to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia when she couldn't be revived and was subsequently declared brain dead on Aug 17.
“The doctors have been trying to resuscitate her and just made the decision to pull the plug at about 4pm," he said.
Shaun shared that the production team has been rescheduling his shoots so that the actor could visit his older sister, when they were notified about her mishap in Hat Yai. Unfortunately, Shaun did not manage to see her one last time before she passed away.

The 38-year-old was professional on set and completed filming all his scenes yesterday. He also attended a commercial event last night and will continue with filming this morning before leaving to see his sister one last time tonight. Our condolences to Shaun and his family. Take from
