A 10-year-old girl sold 1,000 bottles of sambal chilli to raise about S$14,000 for a hawker with cancer.The girl, Phoebe Lim, met the hawker, Tan Boon Teck, on Saturday
morning, Aug. 12, in his Ang Mo Kio rented flat to pass him the money.Tan suffers from Stage 3 colon cancer. He is the youngest son of the
late Tan Chong Chia who founded Armenian Street Char Kway Teow.
The sambal chilli was sold in two batches. The first batch comprised of 300 bottles and the second batch had 700 bottles.Her sambal chilli charity sale and effort to help was widely reported in the local media after the hawker offered to teach anyone how to make his dish for S$10,000.
He is unable to eat too much meat and fibrous vegetables.Besides this fundraising effort by the girl, a group of hawkers led by Douglas Ng of Fishball Story, pledged to donate a portion of their proceeds from an annual Timbre+ food festival to Tan.An ongoing GIVE.asia page set up by Tan’s niece has received about S$6,900 to date.mothership.sg

Money used for daily expenses
According to Channel News Asia, the money would be used for the hawker’s daily expenses and medical costs.Tan consumes fish for his meals as he needs the protein due to the radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment.
